Meet Dr. James E. Downs
Torrington Chiropractor Dr. James E. Downs spent his formative years in Litchfield and decided to return to the area after receiving his chiropractic degree. After working as an associate for a year, he started his own practice in October 1986. The practice moved to its current location in 2004 to serve our patients better.
An Ongoing Education in Excellent Care
Dr. Downs believes that education never ends. He initially considered a dental career but became interested in chiropractic care after seeing his father recover from a back issue with this natural care method.
After graduating from Litchfield High School, he earned a B.S. in Pre-med Biology at the University of Connecticut in 1981. That was followed by graduating with distinction in the top five of his class at New York Chiropractic College in 1985.
He was honored to have earned a D.A.B.C.O., Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists designation, receiving his certification in 1996. There are less than 20 such certifications among practicing chiropractors in Connecticut.
Expertise in Acupuncture and Dry Needling
Dr. Downs has additional certifications in acupuncture and dry needling. He completed 200 hours of instruction to receive certification from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture and took further training with Acupractice Seminars with Dr. James Ventresca.
Moreover, Dr. Downs completed the necessary coursework to become certified in dry needling and now serves as an adjunct instructor at the Dry Needling Institute and hosts post-graduate courses at Downs Chiropractic several times yearly.
