Ultrasound Therapy

Therapeutic ultrasound is the use of ultrasonic sound waves to penetrate soft tissue.

lt is an effective method for generating "deep" heat to treat musculoskeletal injuries as well as a variety of ailments that include pain, spasm, bursitis, and tendinitis. Therapeutic ultrasound waves can penetrate two to three inches into the tissue to generate warmth deep in the layers of connective tissue, the depths of which a conventional heating pad cannot reach. This can be a very soothing and helpful treatment used in conjunction with a variety of other chiropractic techniques. The deep warming effect of the ultrasound therapy promotes tissue relaxation and it is very useful in treating muscle tightness and spasm. The warm effect can also cause blood vessel vasodilation and therefore increase circulation to the area which assists the healing process. Ultrasound is an attended therapy whereby the doctor or assistant applies the ultrasound through a wand-like ultrasound head while using a warm coupling gel applied on the skin. The wand is moved in a slow massaging manner generating warmth in the affected area.
