DABCO
The D.A.B.C.O. designation stands for Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists.  There are less than 20 of such certifications amongst practicing chiropractors in Connecticut at this time.

Various post-graduate programs are available to chiropractors in order to specialize or further pursue areas of interest. Diplomate degrees are available in orthopedics, neurology, nutrition, sports injuries, as well as other fields. The American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists requires 360 hours of post graduate study, as well as passing a 2 part specialty board exam. Dr. Downs began his post-graduate education with National College of Chiropractic in 1991, and passed his final board and became certified in October 1996.

Additional Coursework:
A minimum of 100 hours of post-graduate education is required of chiropractors to practice acupuncture. Dr. Downs has completed two 100-hour courses via the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture and is certified through this organization to perform acupuncture in the State of Connecticut. Additional coursework was with Acupractice Seminars, with Dr. James Ventresca.

More recently, Dr. Downs’ coursework has focused upon dry needling. After completing the dry needling course and becoming certified by the Dry Needling Institute, Dr. Downs now assists lead instructor/developer Dr. David Fishkin as an adjunct instructor of the technique. Post-graduate courses for the Dry Needling Institute are now hosted at Downs Chiropractic three to four times per year.
